The word prolific doesn’t even begin to describe the Brian Jonestown Massacre. With 15 studio albums, 13 EPs, and a handful of compilations to their credit, these guys are more like obsessive-compulsive. And that’s just the beginning. Known for being some of the biggest pain-in-the-ass-to-deal-with musicians in the industry, they starred in the 2004 rockumentary titled Dig! that over the course of seven years documents the tumultuous relationship between Brian Jonestown lead singer Anton Newcombe and fellow Dandy Warhols lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor. We’re talking classic rock-god, godhead, self-absorbed narcissism at the highest levels. Yet despite all that, (which we have no problem putting aside) these guys are pure musical genius. Song after song of goodness, and not just musical, but lyrical. In fact, they have one of our favorite song titles ever: Talk – Action = Shit. Take them for what they are: an amazing, eccentric, psychedelic musical deity with quirks—and ignore the rest. Enjoy.
