Buzz Tunes: Lord Huron - Strange Trails

Hometown: Los Angeles, California

Our discovery of Lord Huron happened during one of those strange moments of synchronicity that happen from time to time. It’s as if because the band happened to be stopping in Boise in between shows on their way to Salt Lake City, we discovered them and as a result went to their impromptu show at the local record store here in town—for free.

Hailing from Los Angeles, via Michigan, via New York (Are there many who really hail from Los Angeles?) Lord Huron is one of those pleasant bands you take a liking to from the first few chords of the first song you hear; their echoey and haunting, reverb-induced church hall sound gets into your soul quickly with a strong hook. Case in point:

If you have the chance to get out and see these guys: take it. Seeing them live, albeit an abbreviated set in a unique environment, affirmed my reaction to their recorded music; these guys are the real deal: great musicians in a studio or live setting. Something that makes or breaks a band in my opinion, especially in this day of computer generated sound. Musicians that get back to the basics of craft quickly become of favorite of ours; and Lord Huron is a new favorite.
